Today's Quora question (yes, people really ask this stuff, grammatical errors and all): "How do I motivate myself to do something that is hard to become good at?" Maybe you should quit screwing around on Quora and get a clue that you're lazy! Or, maybe there's a way around the hard stuff. But... probably not. But, if you figure out a way around the hard stuff, please share. Regardless of my rather negative inclinations, I responded thus:
Hard to answer this question without additional context. At a glance, I'd say you may want to consider the following:
1. Determine whether you need to master this responsibility (or not) in order to be successful and/or satisfied in your career/job.
2. Ask yourself if you're really interested in whatever it is you aren't good at that you think you need to do. Because if it's something you love, you would probably be a bit more excited about learning.
3. Decide if you're just being lazy. If you are, drink some coffee and put your head down; short term pain, long term gain.
4. Consider the possibility that whatever it is is beyond your ability. Sorry, sometimes this is the case. If so, do something else.
5. Figure out if there's a way around it, because if you have to ask this question...I think you know the answer.
There is no magic elixir for motivation. If your paycheck and the other various rewards that come along with your job aren't sufficient...maybe it's time for a new job. Just sayin'
